The Worst Drinks for your Bodybuilding Diet Plan

In a previous blog post, we went over the best bodybuilding diet drinks. In this one, we will discuss which beverages you should make an effort to avoid most of the time. The truth of the matter is that these types of drinks can be just as bad as or worse than unhealthy foods. Furthermore, they can prevent and even ruin a ripped, lean physique.

One of the worst things to drink while on a bodybuilding diet is most kinds of soda, such as cola or root beer. The fact is that many of these drinks contain a lot of excess sugar. They also usually have a ton of empty calories or calories that do not come with any benefits. Additionally, note that most “diet” sodas are not necessarily healthy or any better. Believer it or not, some of them have been linked to a variety of health problems, such as obesity.

Beverages containing alcohol, such as beer, should also be avoided for the most part while on a bodybuilding diet. The truth is that alcohol can cause a variety of health problems, such as unpleasant hangovers and/or liver complications, which can ultimately get in the way of bodybuilding training and so forth. Also like soda, alcohol contains a lot of empty calories (add even more calories if you use a mixer, such as cola).

Most sports or performance drinks are also not a good idea for anyone on a bodybuilding diet. Unfortunately, many people falsely believe all of these types of beverages are healthy. Yes, they can contain beneficial electrolytes and/or vitamins. However, they also generally contain high amounts of sugar and/or calories.

Traditional milkshakes, most ice blended coffees, and similar drinks are yet another category of beverages that are a bad idea for someone prioritizing a bodybuilding diet. The bottom line is that these kinds of drinks contain a lot of fat, calories, and sugar. Those are definitely three things that do not go together for anyone that is looking to gain muscle and/or lose weight from fat.

As stated, these unhealthy drinks should be avoided more often than not during a bodybuilding diet. However, like unhealthy foods, they are acceptable every once in a while and in moderation. Think of them as a “cheat” drink. In other words, feel free to treat yourself to that beer, soda, sports drink, or milkshake every now and then. Just be sure not to overdo it. Also, we suggest not having a cheat meal with a cheat drink. For example, if you are going to have some beer, do not choose to pair it with an unhealthy food, such as fried chicken. Try to keep each “cheat” separate!

To put it briefly, the key to a building a great body is bodybuilding workouts, supplements, healthy foods, and healthy bodybuilding diet drinks. Remember to choose healthy drinks, especially water, more often than not. Also, be sure to always remember that you are not just what you eat. You are what you drink too!
